A list of things you can do in the city of Cusco
19/06/2024
The wonder of this place is greater than its name and for the purposes of the case it does not matter. Its rich history has given it many names and its spelling is accepted in different ways. From its beginnings it had different writings because its original nomenclature was Quechua and then necessarily Castilianized.
With Exploring Peru Tours you will learn to know the City of Cusco.
Whether you arrive by plane or bus, you will be potential prey for tourist hunters. They will offer you accommodation or taxis to get to the center. The center however is only a few minutes from the airport and the city is not that big. Crossing it from one end to the other on foot may take two hours. The ideal is to take a taxi outside the airport and turn a deaf ear to the pullers (unless you are really interested in their proposals).
There are dozens of transportation companies of all prices and quality from most cities in Peru. Generally, travelers arrive from Lima, Arequipa or Puno. Given the informality of the routes, we recommend taking the best possible bus services since they do not stop as much along the way to pick up people. The duration of the trip Lima – Cusco can be between 15 and 21 hours depending on the service you choose.
There are things that will inevitably be part of your journey such as the hundreds of cobblestone streets with stories to tell, the craft markets, the twelve-cornered stone, the great cathedral and several of the churches that will cross your path. These are, however, some of the most recommended things to explore in the city:
Mandatory passing place. Starting from the Plaza de Armas through the paved and narrow Andean streets you will arrive after a few steps uphill. The tourist atmosphere that is both Andean and romantic will captivate you as you see the city from above.
One of the most varied and exotic places in terms of regional foods and products. Fresh coca leaves, pure cocoa, the best quality coffee, fruit juices and typical dishes are just some of the things you will find. Ideal for stocking up on supplies if you want to save money.
Fair available only on weekends. Several blocks full of people hungry to see the most curious second-hand products. They sell things left by foreign tourists and even local products. Excellent to take a look at what is most typical of Cusco and find one treasure or another.
Going up the stairs and along the winding path that goes in the direction of the Christ that observes the entire city, you will find the fortress of Sacsayhuamán. The first approach you will have with Inca architecture before going to Machu Picchu. Galleries, steps, and windows made of stone are the main attraction, as well as a large green esplanade to relax your eyes. Watch out for girls in colorful outfits walking llamas. Taking photos of them is not free.
Not far from Sacsayhuaman you will find the archaeological remains of the Temple of the Moon. While several tours take you only in passing, if you go on your own you can stay longer and find authentic archaeological remains along the way.
In the Plaza de Armas, next to the cathedral, there is a faculty that has a discreet museum. In it you will see natural fauna and flora of the area, but you will also be shocked by the mutants, beings with two heads and several legs that are hidden among their collection. Bizarre and interesting.
What was originally the Temple of the Sun and where the Convent of Santo Domingo was later built. Currently one of the most interesting temples in the heart of the city of Cusco.
